08/15/2005 Archives: "Madagascar Gives Some Good News to DreamWorks"

DreamWorks Animation has been plagued in recent months by SEC investigations, stockholder lawsuits, a slump in DVD sales, and rumors of corporate takeovers by NBC; but the studio did get some good news this financial quarter from its latest release. Guardian Unlimited Films reports that Madagascar brought in a cool $430 million plus in worldwide box office ticket sales, countering the losses in DVD revenue from Shrek 2 and Shark Tale. While the gains did not fully offset the company's losses, the net negative 4 cents per share earnings were much better than the 7-9 cents per share loss forecast just one month prior. Despite the rocky road ahead for the group, executives remained optimistic touting high expectations for the Christmas season DVD release of Madagascar and the upcoming theatrical release of Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
