12/07/2005 Archives: "Iger continues push to stop delay between theater and DVD release"

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, via the Internet Movie Database, Disney CEO Robert Iger shows no signs of backing down from his stance of eliminating the delay between the time a movie is released in theaters and on DVD. As this view conflicts with that of many theater owners, Iger still trusts that it is way of the future, even if Disney must begin the road alone. "No movie studio really wants to be first because it's like going over the hill first in battle," remarks Iger. "They don't want to take the most bullets.” Moreover, it has been revealed that Iger proposed to theater owners the selling of Chicken Little DVDs in their lobbies, with profits from the sales being shared. "But there's so much fear now about change that no one wants to sit down and have a frank discussion," states Iger.
