Thumbs down for modern children’s films?

An article featured on Guardian criticizes modern children’s films for failing their audiences. The story claims that many current animated releases such as Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and Shark Tale are pandering too much to the older members of their audiences, and in doing so forgetting to entertain kids. The running time of newer animated films is also seen as a problem, with the author of the article stating that 2 hour-long movie is too lengthy a time for a child to endure.

Eisner receives Walk of Fame star

Micheal Eisner, ex-CEO of Walt Disney Co., received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, reports Yahoo. At the ceremony, which was held on Friday, Eisner made sure to thank his longtime freind John Travolta, whom he reportedly credited with much of his success. “Anything John was associated with while I was at Paramount was a hit,” said Eisner.”He is my lucky stone. And my success is also tied to the people I worked with.”

South Park: Season 11 on DVD

sp.JPGAccording to TV Shows On DVD, the eleventh season of the long-running animated comedy South Park will be released on DVD this August 12th. The collection will feature three disks worth of material, including all of the episodes aired during season eleven. The price of the set has yet to be announced.

Nightmare Before Christmas Blu-Ray details

Information for the 2-disk and Blue-Ray DVD release of Disney’s The Nightmare Before Christmas can be found at High-Def Digest. According to the site, the upcoming National Treasure 2 DVD includes a sneak peak at the re-release of Nightmare on Blu-Ray. While a specific release date for the film has not yet been determined, the article mentions that it will hit stores sometime this fall.

Code Monkeys: Season 1 press release

A press release for Code Monkeys‘ first season DVD can be read on TV Shows On DVD. The season one two-disk set will be released on August 5th, 2008 at a price of $19.99. Taking place in the 1980’s, Code Monkeys is an animated comedy that follows the antics of two video game programmers who work at the fictional company GameaVision.

Disneyland expansion plans

According to The Orange County Register Disneyland has announced new expansion plans for the entire resort. Mention was made again of the pending Little Mermaid, Cars and Toy Story Mania! rides plus an announcement of a Tinker Bell attraction, due to the character’s enduring popularity. Perhaps the biggest news, however, was the hint at a third Disney theme park for Anaheim.

New Prince Caspian Trailer

A new, more action-packed trailer for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, the second film by Disney/Walden Media based on the C.S. Lewis series of books, has hit the Internet. View it now at the MySpace Trailer Park. The film hits theaters on May 16.

Garth Jennings gets animated

According to SlashFilm, Garth Jennings’s next film will be animated. Jennings, who directed The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy as well as the upcoming Son Of Rambow, claims he is not ready to reveal too much information about his planned project, although he states that he is is undecided as to exactly what medium of animation will be used. “We’re not sure yet how we’re going to render it, be it models, computers, cell or what,” says Jennings. “We’re just making sure we get the story dead right first, and we’re going to let that dictate how we move from there.”

Bleach movie to be screened in US

ActiveAnime reports that Bleach The Movie: Memories Of Nobody will be screening on more than 300 screens in the United States. The special two-day showing will take place on June 11th and 12th. The film is a feature-length adaption of the popular Bleach television series and manga.

Tom and Jerry Tales DVD art

The DVD cover art for the fifth volume of Tom And Jerry Tales can be seen at TV Shows On DVD. The single-disk release will include twelve different cartoons from the animated cartoon series. Tom And Jerry Tales - Volume 5 will be hitting store shelves on August 12th with a price of $14.97.

Amy Poehler on The Mighty B!

A second television spot for Disney/Pixar’s upcoming Wall•E can currently be viewed at iKlipz. The video features several new clips from the animated sc-fi adventure. Written and directed by Andrew Stanton, Wall•E hits theaters on June 27th, 2008.

Earthworm Jim series, game, feature film

Gamasutra reports that the cartoon series Earthworm Jim will be receiving a series revival. The franchise will also be featured in a Wii video game, and is planned to be made into a feature film. Doug TenNapel, creator of Earthworm Jim, will be developing the new series, and is serving as a creative consultant for the game as well.

New Igor poster

Animated future for Kill Bill?

MTV Movies Blog has new information on an animated continuation of the popular Kill Bill series. Uma Thurman, star of the franchise, shares details on one of one of the two anime projects that writer Quentin Tarantino has in the works, saying, “It has nothing to do with me. It has to do with another character. You’ll have to see.” While she does not provide information about the second film, Thurman insists that it will “blow you away”.

Igor trailer at New York Con

An article on IGN reveals that a teaser trailer for the upcoming CGI animated Igor premiered at the New York Comic Con on April 20th. The trailer was unveiled by the film’s helmers, Anthony Leondis and Chris McKenna, who also spoke about information regarding the plot and characters. Leondis further explains that he is happy to have the movie at Weinstein, saying “We knew going with the Weinsteins was a chance to do something a little darker, a little more subversive.” Igor will open in theaters this fall.

Top 5 Earth Day animations

In honor of Earth Day, Frames Per Second has listed their top five choices for best environmentally-friendly animated shorts and films. Making the list are Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax, Frédéric Back’s The Man Who Planted Trees, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and the French-made Respire. Short explanations of why each short and film has made the list are also included.

Eric Rollman president of Marvel Animation

Animation World Network reports that Eric Rollman has been promoted to President of Marvel Animation. According to the article, the decision was made in hopes to heighten the presence of the company in the area of animation and home entertainment. Rollman, previously the Vice President of Marvel’s Home Entertainment & TV Production sect, will oversee the animated projects in works at the studio, as well as potential partnerships.

Wall•E meets a magnet

ComingSoon currently sports a second vignette for Disney/Pixar’s upcoming sci-fi adventure, Wall•E. While the first video featured the robot exploring the purpose of a vaccum cleaner, the new vignette shows Wall•E in his discovery of a magnet. Written and directed by Andrew Stanton, Wall•E opens in theaters on June 27th.
